the echo chamber

the echo chamber

green miyagi:eco drop locations. every single one is on top of a water main, an aquifer access point, or a treatment facility.
echo's interface floods the room with data — blueprints, water table maps, infrastructure schematics. connections light up between nodes. a pattern emerges: every eco drop location was positioned near a critical water infrastructure point. the mission was never about conservation. it was about surveillance and control.
echo:the mission was a trojan horse. the car wash was real enough, but the real product was data — water usage patterns, infrastructure vulnerabilities, community trust.
green miyagi:i was the face of a surveillance operation. the face tat wasn’t a bullseye. it was a brand.
echo:you were both the product and the distributor. and you never knew.
green miyagi:it’s not just a tattoo. there’s something under it.
green miyagi touches their face. the tattoo pulses — warm, alive. a low frequency hum emanates from it. echo's screen flickers. the tattoo isn't just ink. it's a receiver. close-up on the teardrop earth, micro-filaments visible under the skin. it's biotech.
echo:scanning. the ink contains micro-filaments. bio-compatible circuitry. you’ve been broadcasting.
green miyagi:broadcasting what?
echo:everything. your location. your biometrics. your conversations. everything you’ve seen and heard since the day it was applied.
green miyagi:can you trace the signal? where is it going?
green miyagi stares at their reflection in a puddle. the teardrop earth glows faintly beneath the surface of the water. they touch their face. the glow intensifies. echo calculates furiously in the background, searching for the tattoo's signal endpoint.
echo:it’s encrypted. layered. routed through six different dead drops. but the destination is clear.
green miyagi:where?
echo:the original eco drop command center. the building you were already heading to. the tattoo is calling home.
green miyagi:the building is responding to the tattoo.
the eco drop command center looms in the distance — a squat brutalist building half-submerged, its roof intact. emergency lights still glow from within. the water around it is unnaturally clear, as if the building is actively filtering its perimeter. green miyagi approaches by boat. the tattoo pulses in rhythm with the building's lights.
echo:the tattoo is a key. you were designed to return here at the right moment.
green miyagi:designed. like a character in a story someone else is writing.
echo:or like a variable in a program you’re about to rewrite.
